Running the W4MQ software on an Apple Mac system

Yes, it IS possible to run the W4MQ software on an Apple Mac system. There are several things to remember though -

First, it MUST be an Intel CPU based Mac. The old G4/G5 based systems do NOT run any software intended for Intel based CPU systems.

Second, you'll need the ability to run a version of Windows on your Mac either through Boot Camp (in Leopard and Snow Leopard versions of OS X) or via Parallels Desktop or VMWare virtualization software.

I know that it works since I use my iMac system running Parallels Desktop and Windows XP Pro to do the actual software changes and testing to the W4MQ software. I also use a Macbook (again with the Parallels Desktop and Windows XP Home combination) to test the client side software.

I am much less certain about 64 bit versions of the Windows operating systems and Windows 7 in all of its versions. I have NOT tested the W4MQ software in those environments.

If you've had any experience that yo uwant to pass along please let me know.

Apple Mac System

Just my opinion but there is a big advantage to mac os 10.6.x. Parallels and VM Ware run xp, vista, & win 7 in a mac window. Your windows computer is contained in one file on your hard drive. you can even move the file to an external drive. I addition, I have found plenty of ham radio applications for the mac and I have been able to control my icom 756pro with maclogger, call my computer with skype, answer with back to my mac and control the rig remotely. However, I would recommend to most hams to upgrade to a mac and keep you old pc as a dedicated ham computer. If you stay off IE and email, most of your xp problems will disappear.
