Audio - other solutions instead of Skype?

I am using the IRB with Skype. It does work, but uses quite a lot of CPU on a fast machine (30% on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).
Also I am not particularly fond of routing other people's calls as Skype does.
Is there any other way to use sound, both listening and modulating via the internet?
Like VoIP, iChat or such?
(Working on Mac OS X, with W4MQ running under Parallels and Windows XP SP3 - works well, also Skype under Mac OS X)

Skype IPO

As the start of an initial public offering, Skype has filed financial documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Skype IPO has been long predicted, though some surprising numbers were exposed in the filings. Users are hoping that the newly-complicated structure behind Skype will not impact the service they love.Skype was used by more than a million of people since it was created.I hope that they will continue to make their services good.

suggestion

Might I suggest Fideliphone. It's a very simple audio over internet program. Can be stereo or mono and has a variable bitrate, set by you.
